Jane Fonda, the legendary actress and activist, turned 87 this past December, yet she claims to feel younger than ever. In a recent interview to promote her sneaker campaign with Golden Goose, Fonda shared her insights on aging, fitness, and personal style.
Feeling Younger Than Ever
Fonda credits her daily workouts with a trainer as one of the key factors in maintaining her health and youthful energy. “I don’t feel like an old person. I’m much younger than I was when I was in my 20s, in all the ways that matter,” the two-time Academy Award winner explained.
During her conversation with The New York Times, she elaborated on her exercise routine, noting that while she has slowed down, she remains active. “I used to be a runner, but now I love walking. I love being outdoors in the woods, especially up and down hills,” she said.
Golden Goose Sneaker Campaign
Fonda is the first of several celebrities set to promote Golden Goose’s 25th anniversary. She stars in the brand’s new “Born to be a Super-Star” campaign, which celebrates individuals who take risks and push boundaries. Reflecting on her participation, she shared, “So it never occurred to me with this campaign, ‘Oh, God, isn’t this great. They’re using an old woman.’ But now that I think about it, it is cool. I like that.”
Originally launched in 2007, the Golden Goose Super-Star sneaker draws inspiration from the Venice Beach skater scene and is known for its distinctive star emblem.
Fitness Legacy and Impact
Fonda’s passion for fitness has been evident for decades. Her Jane Fonda’s Workout video series, which began in 1982, revolutionized home fitness and sold over 17 million copies between 1982 and 1995. The success of these videos helped ignite a movement for women’s fitness classes and encouraged greater participation in structured exercise.
“I had no idea my videos were going to become such a phenomenon,” Fonda told People recently. “When I was starting out, there weren’t many rigorous forms of exercise available to women. I learned the basic workout from a charismatic teacher named Leni Kasden in the ’70s.”
A Career That Spans Six Decades
Fonda’s acting career began with Tall Story (1960), leading to iconic roles in Barbarella (1968), They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1970), Klute (1972), and Coming Home (1978), among others. After a 15-year hiatus, she returned with films such as Monster-in-Law (2005) and Youth (2015). More recently, she starred in The Newsroom (2012-2014) and Grace and Frankie (2015-2022).
Honored at the 31st SAG Awards
Fonda will be honored with the Screen Actors Guild’s Life Achievement Award at the 31st SAG Awards on February 23. Reflecting on the recognition, she said, “I have been working in this industry for almost the entirety of my life, and there’s no honor like the one bestowed on you by your peers.”
As she continues to embrace life with energy and purpose, Jane Fonda remains an inspiring figure, proving that age is just a number.
