A mother was walking down the hallway one evening when she heard an odd humming sound coming from her daughter’s bedroom. Pausing to listen, her curiosity got the better of her, and she gently knocked before opening the door. Inside, she found her daughter sitting cross-legged on the bed, holding a small, buzzing device in her hand. The daughter looked up, startled but not embarrassed.
“What on earth are you doing?” the mother asked, her voice a mix of concern and confusion.
The daughter sighed and rolled her eyes, holding up the buzzing device. “Mom, I’m 35, still single, and living at home. Let’s just say, this is the closest thing I’ve got to companionship right now.”
The mother didn’t know whether to laugh or offer advice, so she backed out of the room, muttering something about needing to finish the laundry.
A few days later, her husband was in the kitchen, fixing himself a sandwich, when he heard a faint but familiar buzzing sound coming from the basement. Intrigued, he put down his sandwich and headed downstairs. There, he found his daughter lounging on the couch, holding the same buzzing device, looking completely at ease.
“Uh, do I even want to ask what’s going on here?” the father said, hands on his hips.
The daughter raised an eyebrow and replied with a smirk, “Dad, I’m 35, single, and still living at home. This is how I cope with my reality.”
The father, unsure of how to respond, awkwardly mumbled something about checking the water heater and quickly retreated upstairs.
A few nights later, the mother heard the unmistakable humming sound again. This time, it seemed to be coming from the den. She frowned, grabbed a dish towel from the kitchen, and walked in to investigate. To her surprise, she found her husband sitting on the couch, watching the game on TV, with the buzzing device casually placed on the coffee table beside him.
“What on earth are you doing?” she asked, baffled.
Without missing a beat, her husband turned to her with a grin and said, “What does it look like? I’m watching the game with my son-in-law.”
The mother stood there for a moment, unsure whether to laugh or lecture him, before finally shaking her head and walking away, muttering, “You’re all ridiculous.”
From that day on, the mother decided she’d stop investigating any strange buzzing sounds in the house. Some mysteries, she figured, were better left unsolved.
